Why Norwood – Disk Golf, River Canoe Trips, Culture and More

Norwood Grove has more to offer then meets the eye. This diverse community makes up the majority of Winnipeg’s French Quarter – St Boniface, exudes in interest and history all while offering a variety of options for play.

Vibrant neighbourhoods featuring unique architecture and home to many local artists is only a short walk from downtown Winnipeg and major tourist destinations such as:

As well as sporting venues like the Bell MTS Place, home of the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose, and Goldeyes Ballpark!

Being connected is one thing, but here are a few of our favourite Grove Highlights that make this community so special!

Disk Golf – Norwood Grove is home to the only Disk Golf Course with in the Winnipeg City limits located at Happyland Park. To find our more about Disk Golf visit Disk Golf Manitoba

The Norwood Bandshell – Located in Coronation Park the Norwood Grove BIZ bandshell was built as a community concert stage. Today it is home to the annual concert event hosted by the BIZ, Summer ZUMBA series, Yoga, Boot Camps and is available for bookings through Parks and Recreation by calling 311.

Patios – In the summertime there is nothing like chilling on a patio and Norwood features some of the best in the city! Find the smooth sounds of Jazz in a hidden garden at 312 Des Meurons St. home of Inferno’s Bistro. Or take a seat at one of the two best roof top gems in Winnipeg at Pasqualies Restaurant or Santa Lucia Pizza. Italian and French not your vibe, no worries! Follow the sounds of the steel drums to Deen’s Caribbean Restaurant located at 205 Marion St.

50’s Classics – Although our history in Norwood can take us back 200 years, one era between then and now is still strongly represented with 3 one of a kind 50’s Diners! Red Top is located at 219 St Mary’s Rd and serves up a full menu with plenty of seating. Burgers and ice-cream can be found at Dairy Whip, 383 Marion St. Then located at. 286 Tache is Mrs Mike’s. Lined up no matter the season this is a popular lunch stop in St Boniface.

Canoe the Saine – This beautiful little river, with head waters in the Sandilands south east of Steinbach, runs through the heart of St. Boniface. Best time to canoe this river is the spring and early summer (unless after a heavy rain), it’s worth spending some time on this hidden haven in Winnipeg. The river is fairly narrow and even small fallen trees can block the way so be prepared. There are lots of access points, for more information visit Winnipeg Canoe Destinations and Access Points.
